Karen deBlieck

Our very own Karen deBlieck is one of five finalists in The Reading Room‘s Aspiring Writers competition.

Why don’t you drop by and show her some love? You’ll get a chance to read the beginning of her novel, Parched (a Genesis First Impressions finalist in 2012) along with the other entires. Then click on a button to vote for your favorite (Karen’s, of course!). 😉

Note: You have to sign up to be a Reading Room member (free) to be eligible to vote. The Reading Room is similar to Goodreads in that you can rate books, track what you’re reading, and join book club discussions.

Karen – if you’re reading this, tell us a little about your experience with The Reading Room and its contest.

Readers – have you ever entered a writing contest? Or have you ever won a contest of any sort (giveaway, raffle, competition)? We’d love to hear from you!

  1. Hey, thank you fellow Scriblerians for featuring me on the blog today!

If you write kidlit (anything from picture books to YA) there is a FREE conference at http://writeoncon.com/. It’s a conference held over the internet where the rising stars of kidlit hang out and play. 🙂 Through this community I found out about the Aspiring Writers Competition held through the Reading Room.

It’s a very exciting opportunity for me, not because of the cash prize (although a chance at $1000 doesn’t hurt). No, the most amazing thing is that people will be reading a story I wrote. It’s wonderful to share even a tiny piece with an audience.

The competition is very stiff! And I’m very happy to have made it this far. It is very affirming. Truly my fellow Scriblerians have helped me every step of the way. I thank God for them!
